Mentorship structure

Mentorship is not incidental to the program, it is the program. Every scholar has a physician mentor, a peer mentor, and a documented cadence of contact.

Pairing & cadence

How mentorship works

Physician mentor

Each scholar is paired with a practicing ophthalmologist who supervises clinical observation, signs competency checklists, and writes the closing letter of recommendation.

Peer mentor

A scholar one level ahead, a pre med scholar for a Discovery scholar, a medical student for a pre med scholar, provides week to week guidance and accountability.

Monthly check ins

A documented one on one covering progress, deliverables, obstacles, and next step planning. Logged in the mentor dashboard.

Quarterly group sessions

All scholars convene for journal club, case presentations, and career panels with mentors and alumni.
